Intelligent rain gauges for better stormwater management in Longueuil
Since October 2025, the Longueuil metropolitan area has been using a new technology deployed by X-TELIA: X-PLUVIO. Eleven heated rain gauges have been installed on rooftops in Longueuil, Saint-Lambert, Boucherville, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, and Brossard.
These smart sensors, connected to the X-TELIA network already in place in many cities across Quebec, will measure precipitation throughout the year. Since they are heated, they can also measure snow by melting it and converting it into water equivalent.
The data collected will be accessible in a cloud-based dashboard designed by X-TELIA. Cities will be able to track precipitation trends, view historical data, and automatically receive email or text alerts when heavy rain falls in a given area. This is a valuable tool for anticipating the impact on storm sewer systems and responding more quickly.
With this project, the agglomeration of Longueuil gains a new ally to better understand and manage the challenges associated with stormwater, summer and winter alike.
